Overview

The Leshan Giant Buddha, also known as Lingyun Buddha, is a colossal stone carving of Maitreya Buddha situated on the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu, and Qingyi rivers in Leshan City, Sichuan Province, China. This remarkable statue, carved out of a cliff over a span of 90 years during the Tang Dynasty, stands as a testament to ancient Chinese craftsmanship and devotion to Buddhism. It is recognized as the tallest stone-carved Buddha statue in the world, measuring 71 meters in total height, with a seated height of 59.96 meters.
